About Me

Linda was born in a rural area of New Zealand. She was an artistic child – but never got the opportunity to develop her talent. She learnt many of the domestic skills of the era – knitting, embroidery, cooking; and spent as much time as she could drawing. After she was married and had a family she had little time for even this. She started decorating cakes – for herself, family and friends – and this became her main artistic expression over the next years. Her skills in this area increased dramatically, and she also started making lifelike sugar flowers. By the mid 1990’s Linda was one of the most well-known cake decorators in New Zealand. In 1999 a visit to the US lead to a job offer at the Bellagio, and she and her husband relocated to Las Vegas in June of that year. In 2001 Linda got the opportunity to spend some time creating 3-dimensional paintings. Cakes were an important part of Linda’s life but they are temporary – and this was part of a search to find a more permanent medium. She completed 2 late 2001, got interrupted by cakes, finished another early 2003 and was interrupted by cakes again! Linda worked at Perfect Endings in Napa in 2004, and then joined the Wynn as their Cake Artist from early 2005. During 2006 Linda was featured on SugarRush, and later took part in one of the Food Network Challenges. She has decorated cakes for a number of well-known people – including Oprah Winfrey, Mel Gibson, Will Smith, Paris Hilton, Tony Curtis, Robert Goulet, Britney Spears, Gene Simmonds (Kiss), Stevie Wonder, Liz Taylor, the Revlon family and others. However, she finally committed herself to her art early 2007 when she left the Wynn. Then in 2009 it was time to move again – Linda and her husband relocated to Pell City, Alabama. Buying a house has given her new tasks – creating a garden from nothing and bringing back a home from a rundown house have filled her days – but her artistic desires are still incomplete. She has become a member of the local Artscape Gallery – and is still creating artworks in her own unique style.

Linda gets her designs from life as she did with her cake decorating. Being a keen photographer, she has created a great catalogue of ideas for herself. Her love for rocks and flowers, combined with a real fascination with different textures, helps her create her art as she sees the world around her. Using a mix of marble, resin and acrylics she does not paint a flat canvas – instead she creates a 3-dimensional slice of the world which stimulates the viewers senses – giving a feeling of life and movement. She also has another side – creating beautiful colored pencil drawings – these are wonderfully ornate and detailed and show an entirely new side of Linda’s talent. Small 3-dimensional hangings are also showing her versatility and use some of the cake decorating skills developed over the years. In addition to this, Linda is finding time to create a unique line of animal tic-tac-toe: "Tic-tac-tanimals". These are all hand-made, and on a hand-made board - and are really neat.
